Sungai Singor
For the ultimate, immersive Malaysian whitewater/equatorial rainforest/camping experience, we offer the 3 Day, 2 night Sg. Singor whitewater expedition. Sg Singor, on the Perak-Kelantan border, is a whitewater river that flow through the mostly virgin rainforest of the Belum rainforest ecosystem.
The adventure begins in the small town of Grik, from which participants will drive on to the starting point. A 3.5 hour hike though secondary forest brings us to the “put-in” point on the Sg Chewis, a tributary of the Sg Singor. A 2-hour whitewater ride over Grade 1 to Grade III rapids on the river brings us to the confluence of two rivers set in the Malaysian rainforest, and the first night’s campsite.
For the rafting, participants are provided with helmet, paddle and Personal Flotation Device. Each raft carries between 5 to 6 participants and two river guides accompany each raft.
Basic camping with flysheet and groundsheet is provided; bathing is in the cold waters of the pristine river, with a hot, hearty, Malaysian-style meal served for dinner, while darkness settles over the rainforest, and the night sky lights up with the faint light of distant stars.
After breaking camp the next morning, the adventure continues with whitewater rafting down the Sg. Singor, which varies from Grade I to Grade V rapids, with a few refreshment stops along the way, including lunch. These stops are also opportunities to savour the rainforest, dense, lush, and one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems in the world.
This section typically takes between 5-6 hours of rafting, and we camp the next night in the jungle, by the river, at Kuala Sami.
The third day involves rafting a distance of 7.5km for about 4 hours, over rapids ranging from Grade I to Grade IV, eventually to the “take-out” point at a village, where a motorboat takes participants out to Pulau Banding, and civilization.
